Storeroom
Created by Caleb Jones for the MSU Games and Interactivity course. Based on a first-person shooter asset kit provided as course materials, but with some fairly extensive modifications.
Not 100% satisfied with the visuals. I may continue work after the assignment is graded so I can really show off to potential portfolio-seers what I can do.
Controls:
- MOVE - WASD
- LOOK - Mouse
- DASH - Shift
- OPEN DOOR / PICK UP ITEM - E
- USE ITEM - Left click
the game has been modified in the following ways:
- Complete graphical overhaul. Very few visual assets from the original asset kit were used; instead, most assets were taken from the Quixel Megascans library, a few concrete textures were exported from free Substance files, and some assets were made custom for the project.
- Built a giant multi-floor environment to explore.
- Wrote a custom URP corner grunge pass to help integrate surfaces with the world. Didn't get to use it nearly as universally as I was hoping to, but it did get used in the entrance corridor and the room under the stairs.
- Built a decent few custom shader effects. One of them just added grunge-pass support to the standard PBR shader, but I also did some fun stuff here and there.
- Refactored the guns system into a general held items system, and the doors system to use held-item keys.
- To support the level I wanted to create, retuned the player to move at normal human speeds. Also added a dash button, since normal walking feels painfully slow in games.
